How to Photograph Your Shy Cat

Do you dream of professional photos of your furry friend, but feel like it's an impossible mission? You're not alone. Most cats won't sit still for a photo shoot, and that's okay! The key is to capture their unique personality in a comfortable environment.

Understanding Your Cat's World

Professional cat photography is all about patience and making your cat feel safe. Unlike dogs, cats are often creatures of habit and can be easily stressed by new people or changes to their routine. This is especially true for cats who live with just one person.

Before any photo session, I take the time to get to know your cat. For example, when I met Blythe, a shy tabby, I spent our first meeting just talking to her and letting her get comfortable with my presence. Sometimes a few treats or a bit of playtime is all it takes to build trust. When we met again for her session, she was still a bit unsure, but eventually, she came around.

Pro Tip: You can create a safe, inviting space for your cat during a photo shoot. Cats love to hide, so I often use boxes to create a secure spot where they can peek out, allowing for a comfortable and cute shot.

Capturing Two Personalities at Once

Freya & Odin Feline portrait

Photographing multiple cats can be a fun challenge. I recently had a session with Freya and Odin, two tuxedo cats with very different personalities. Freya was confident and curious, while Odin was much shier and preferred to hide on top of the fridge.

With a little patience and Freya's confident example, Odin slowly started to venture out for a treat, making sure his sister didn't snatch it first. Their session was a huge success, and their owner now has beautiful photos of both their unique personalities displayed on their walls.

Let's Capture Your Cat's True Self

Every cat has a story to tell. Whether your cat is a timid little shadow or a boundless ball of energy, professional photography can capture their true essence without the stress of a traditional photo shoot. By working in their own home and on their own terms, we can create beautiful, authentic photos you'll treasure forever.

Cat photography is available across the North West of England in the comfort of your own home.
